Baltimore’s Mobtown Modern kicks off the John Cage Centennial celebration in this area. Pianist Adam Tendler will perform Cage’s Sonatas and Interludes, which stands as a landmark composition in the history of the piano repertoire. The inventive Cage has the pianist of this piece use a variety of objects —erasers, screws, wire, et als. — to “prepare” the piano, making parts of the instrument sound more like a percussion section than an actual piano. Mobtown Modern will also welcome students from the Maryland Institute College of Art’s Sound Art program, who will be sampling the concert and creating remixes of the performance that Mobtown Modern will post online after the concert. The concert will be at 2640 Space, 2640 St. Paul Street, Baltimore.
