Kathleen Supove, one of America’s most acclaimed and versatile modern music pianists, will display her dazzling virtuosity at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. In addition to her virtuosic musicianship, she is also known for her boundary-breaking ways of breaking down the wall between performer and audience. Supove is in great demand both here and abroad as a performer in major venues such as Lincoln Center as well as in contemporary music festivals such as California’s Other Minds Festival. At the same time she is a fixture in New York’s lower East Side clubs. After winning top prizes in the Gaudeamus International Competition for Interpretation of Contemporary Music, she began her career as a guest artist at the prestigious Darmstadt Festival in Germany. In recent years, Supove has presented solo concerts entitled The Exploding Piano, in which she has championed the music of countless contemporary composers, including both nationally and internationally well established composers and younger composers just beginning their careers. She has championed them all: minimalists, postminimalists, and experimentalists. Called the “doyenne of the downtown music scene” by the New York Times, she is both in constant demand as a performer in venues large and small, and also beloved by the composers whose music she performs. Order your tickets early. This concert will be very popular and should not to be missed.
