Our living room tonight

Greetings to all on the anniversary of Randy's passing. Today we also
celebrate the lives of Dominic and Lisa Mandalfino, who died exactly 5
years before Randy, also suddenly, also in Los Angeles. They were my
cousins.

To celebrate a good old friend, our family performed John Cage's 4'33"
tonight in our living room in Miami, Florida. My wife Enid, our daughter
Gianna and son Gabriel danced with me to Annie Lenox' "Legend In My
Living Room" (3'45") and other tunes. John & Randy kept time.

I would like to thank Randy publicly for a few of his gifts to us. Randy
took over the music lessons I had been giving to Dan, an autistic
musician. They did amazing things together, some of which I have on tape.
Maybe I should submit the tape to be archived here. Thanks for the
memories, Randy!

Randy took over Dan's lessons when we left California, and he gave us two
excellent mix tapes to listen to on the trip across the continent: Aretha
Franklin, P-Funk, etc. Thank you, Randy!

And last but not least, Randy danced like hell in OUR living room in
Silver Lake, shortly before we left. Long live the Living Room!

Here's part of what I learned from Randy: "Do what you must, but don't
get too full of yourself. It's only rock-n-roll." In his honor I suggest
we each burst the bubble of a pretentious artist the next chance we get.

Sincerely,
Albert Harum-Alvarez
